As cliché as it may seem, I started my relationship with yoga at the same time as another relationship was falling apart. 5 years ago, I walked into a hot yoga studio in Ottawa, started the intro month and it’s been love ever since. I was embraced by the yoga community and my time on my mat at the studio felt like home away from home. Then came the need to expand my horizon and, following the advise of an avid ashtanga practitioner, I found myself in my first Ashtanga Mysore class in January 2017. It is a hard and beautiful practice, one that I feel humbled by and privileged to practice.
I can definitely say that yoga has transformed me into the person that I was meant to be all along: more confident, self-assured, and so much happier. While gaining strength and flexibility were great “side effects”, it was learning to be comfortable in my own skin that made yoga such a life changing practice for me. To be patient with myself and to listen to my body; to cherish the breathe and the struggle as I pressed onward through a flow of movements.
As a yoga teacher, my goal is to share this passion with my community, especially with the folks who want to try yoga but don’t seem to know how. Come! Let’s do this together!
