Built in 1916 and known as being one of the earliest recorded historic buildings still in existence in the community of Overbrook, the VINCI School (formerly known as the Overbrook Public School), is an important part of the community’s identity and social history.
Known for her diversity when it comes to African dance styles, Lala Maryke is a dancer and choreographer in Canada’s capital city. She started dancing Hip-hop and Dancehall at 12 years old and only got the African dance bite after her trip to Africa in 2005. Started with traditional Burundian dance, followed by Coupé décalé and Ndombolo; later on Azonto, Afrobeats, West African ballet and the list goes on! Currently choreographer and member of the Afrobeats/Dancehall Caramel Latte dance crew and President and Choreographer of the traditional Burundian dance Ishaka Cultural Group.
